T.W.I.G.S. Youth Open-Mic Jam Session

The T.W.I.G.S. (True Wisdom In Growing Souls) Youth Open-Mic Jam Session is a youth-led, open-mic programme that gives an opportunity for young people to share their talents, meet each other and deepen in a positive environment. A core youth team, under the mentorship of industry veterans, are developed and mentored on every aspect of event management including; staffing, marketing and facilitation and of course performance. Young people are tasked with developing the T.W.I.G.S monthly youth open-mic jam session, for up to 50 participants, much like the open-mic format Chewstick was founded on, however focused around creating a positive social activity for the youngest people in our community. Participants are empowered to speak up about issues facing them and to do so in a creative way. T.W.I.G.S also presents the opportunity for participants in the ChewSLAM program to showcase what they have been working on for an audience of their peers.

For those that are interested in performing, there will be a book to sign-up as you enter in typical Chewstick style, but you are recommended to get there early if you wish to do so. There is a dedicated backline (drums, keyboard, bass and guitar amps) at the fully equipped Chewstick Neo-Griot Lounge, and youth are encouraged to bring their tracks, guitars or whatever you need to shine. And with the projectors, smoke machine and stage lights – you will indeed shine!
